Your GP practice
Your GP practice provides a wide range of health services. Find out how to register.
There are three ways to contact your GP practice: online, by phone, or in person.
You can request a telephone appointment if that is more convenient for you than a face-to-face appointment.
GP practices are open from 8am to 6.30pm, Monday to Friday. If you need an evening or weekend appointment, your GP practice can arrange this for you.
Your GP will refer you for any tests or specialist treatment you may need, which could be to a hospital, local clinic, or community diagnostic centre.
As well as your GP, did you know there are other professionals in your local health team who can help you get the care you need as quickly as possible?
Repeat prescriptions and test results
With the NHS App, you can order repeat prescriptions and check test results on your phone. You can also contact your GP practice to do this if you prefer.
Help from NHS 111
If you’re worried about a symptom and not sure what help you need, visit 111.nhs.uk or call 111.
Your high street pharmacist can prescribe medicines and, if you are over 40, will check your blood pressure for free.
They can provide free medicine for minor illnesses if you are eligible. See the ‘Self care medications scheme guide for patients’.
Your pharmacist offers on-the-spot expert advice which can be faster than waiting for a GP appointment.
They can also assess you and supply prescription medicines for these common conditions, without an appointment. This is called Pharmacy First.
